Visitors to Beech Hill Farm ask us lots of questions about the animals on our farm, our ice cream, and the different things you can do while they are here. We've listed some of the most common questions we are asked on this page. If you have a new question you'd like to ask the Kimballs, click here to send it. We may post your question - and the Kimballs' answer - on our web site!
Q: Is Sunny still here?
A: Yes, Sunny is alive and well and turned 42 this year. She is a brown and white Shetland pony and in her early years was used to teach children how to ride. She is now in retirement and enjoying her life here at Beech Hill.
Q: How old is Beech Hill Farm?
A: Beech Hill Farm has been in the Kimball family for nine generations and has always been a working family farm. Our original deed is dated 1771. For more than two hundred years it was a dairy farm and in 1996 the dairy herd was sold and our new adventure began. Our farm consists of over 170 acres. We presently raise hay, pumpkins and fields of corn for our very popular corn mazes in the fall.
Q: What is the name of your dog?
A: Cosmo is our 13 year old family pet. He is part Golden Retriever and Shinook and was purchased from a farm in Montreal near the Cosmodome. Thus, the name Cosmo. He is a very gentle and loyal dog and has become a real attraction on the farm.
Q: Do you ever have baby peacocks?
A: Yes, our peacocks hatch chicks each year. We estimate their arrival to be around the end of July. The parent peacocks, Prince and Poppy usually have about 5 chicks.
Q: Are you related to the Kimball Farm folks in Massachusetts?
A: Yes, we are related!
Q: How did you come up with the idea to have an ice cream barn?
A: The Kimball’s had wanted to have an ice cream stand for many years, but it was difficult to operate the dairy farm and an ice cream stand at the same time. So, when the decision to sell the cows was made, it was a natural choice to replace the cows with ice cream.
This is our 13th season and we are proud to have a member of our 9th generation Kimball family on our work staff this year!!!! |
